Dear Yuletide Writer 2025
Hello and thank you for writing for me for Yuletide 2025! I'll keep this brief because I know I'll be excited about whatever fic you're excited about writing - whatever captures your fancy, I look forward to reading. Yuletide is such a fantastic challenge and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with this year.
Some of my general likes include: worldbuilding; addressing unanswered questions; missing scenes; canon-divergences and what-ifs; pre- and post-canon speculation; humor; canon pastiche and tone-matching; bittersweet and/or ambivalent feelings; angst and tragedy (with or without happy endings or catharsis); long-standing relationships. (I also really enjoy interactive fiction/IF, if you're moved to write it!)
I've listed fandom-specific DNWs in each of my prompts, but my most general DNW is setting-based AUs like school or coffeeshop AUs. While I'm interested in fic of any rating, I'm also typically not that into fluff or PWP.
The Dispossessed: Worldbuilding
The Dispossessed is so fascinating and powerful; I came away from it wanting to see more of Anarres and its possibilities and complications. I would love any story that fleshes out Anarres either pre- or post-ansible: OCs and worldbuilding gladly welcome! I'd also be happy to read more about Shevek's life - either as a young person or after the events of the novel - so feel free to include him if you wish, but it's in no way necessary; I'd just love to read more about Anarres and its imperfect anarchic past and future.
DNWs: Primary focus on sex or romance; setting-based AUs (school, coffeeshop, etc.)
The Bright Sword: Bedivere, Arthur
I love Bedivere and I love Bedivere's frustrating, yet deeply intimate relationship with Arthur in The Bright Sword - I'd love to read more about their time together, whether that's a forgotten adventure or something spanning years of their time at Camelot, or even more of Bedivere's grief and revisitation of his time with Arthur after Arthur's death and the fall of Camelot. I'm especially interested in how elusive and guarded Arthur is and what a cipher he is in the narrative; whether or not he returns Bedivere's feelings in his own way, there's something so inaccessible about him, and I'm really interested in that, and in Bedivere's mixed-up longing and protectiveness and resentment. Happy for Bedivere/Arthur here, at any degree of requitedness, but also to read about their friendship.
DNWs: Setting-based AUs (school, coffeeshop, etc.)
Dogsbody: Sirius, Kathleen O'Brien
Dogsbody is so compelling and bittersweet, and the ending really got me - both dog-Sirius' death(ish) and the book's final line. I find Sirius and Kathleen's relationship really sweet and sad, and I wonder meeting again might look like between them: either in some earthly context or something much more cosmic and fantastical. What would a grown-up Kathleen make of him - or an elderly Kathleen, or a dead Kathleen? I enjoy the almost-immaturity and childlikeness of Sirius' perspective on her and dream of seeing her again; I interpret him as having a kind of non-literal (or at least not quite human) unrequited love for her, but I'm happy with any interpretation of their connection.
DNWs: Explicit romantic or sexual content involving underage Kathleen; setting-based AUs (school, coffeeshop, etc.)
Thank you again and happy writing!
